Our History
The JVCAPITAL Programme was established by the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), with technical assistance and financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank’s Multilateral Investment Fund (now IDB-Lab). The focus was on creating an ecosystem conducive to the advancement of a venture capital and private equity industry in Jamaica.
The programme ended in 2021 and, in keeping with the final project deliverable, a set of knowledge documents were produced. This consisted of a case study chronicling the process of execution and a documentary outlining the challenges that prevailed and the impact and legacy that has emerged from the work done under the programme.
There was, also, a recognized need for the sustainability of the work started. The successor programmes include:
- DBJ – Private Capital Technical Unit – anchor investment in new funds
- DBJ – Boosting Innovation Growth & Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) – significant expand innovation and entrepreneurship in Jamaica
- Caribbean Alternative Investment Association – private sector leadership of the expansion of the private capital markets in Jamaica and the Caribbean Region.
